The Snail The Whale {Autism Friendly Performance} at The New Victory Theater

{Giveaway Ended}

I will never forget the first Broadway play my mother took me to see. I was 8 years old and the moment the lights dimmed, I was hooked. I love the theater. And I feel lucky that my mother introduced me to the performing arts at such a young age. I knew that when I became a mom, I wanted to give my child the same experience.

However, having a son with autism, I wondered if we'd ever be able to see a  show together. Earlier this year, we were able to see one: an autism friendly performance of Bello the Clown at the New Victory Theater

It's always pretty wonderful when any place opens their doors specifically for special needs families. New Victory partnered with Autism Friendly Spaces to create a welcoming environment. It was the ideal setting for a first time viewing. The space and performance was modified to accommodate individuals with autism and/or sensory sensitivities. It was a judgement free environment.

For the 2014-15 season, New Victory offers 4 autism friendly shows. And the first one - The Snail and the Whale is scheduled for Saturday, October 18th at 7pm.
Some travel by bus and some get around by bike, but to see the whole world, it's best to hitch a ride on the tail of a giant humpback whale. As told by a loving father to his young daughter, one small snail "with an itchy foot" does just that in an adventure-filled story about an unlikely friendship. Based on the beloved book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, and adapted for the stage by London's Tall Stories (The Gruffalo, New Vic 2004), THE SNAIL AND THE WHALE uses brilliant storytelling, beautiful live music and lots of laughs to remind us how even little friends can be big heroes.
I'm not able to attend the performance on the 18th but I'm excited to host a giveaway!
