One thing I love about Mother's Day Sunday is going out for brunch. Who am I kidding? - We go to brunch often...not just on Mother's Day. Living in NYC most folks associate brunch with Manhattan. The Bronx is burning with hot Brunch spots. So whether you're a local or not,

Taqueria Tlaxcalli -- 2103 Starling Ave | Bronx, NY 10462 | (347) 851-3085
Walking distance from our apartment, we are here often. It's a little on the small side but the food is big in flavor and totally worth the wait. It's been featured on Channel 7 and the New York Times (twice!) and it's Michelin rated.



What we usually order: Guacamole, Sangria, Juevos Rancheros, Sopes and Chicken Fajitas. But EVERYTHING on the menu is amazing. And my recent favorite? Chile Rellenos (below) 

Brew Coffee House -- 3217 Philip Ave | Bronx, NY 10465 | (718) 684-3302
If you're looking for quick cup of coffee with mom or a leisurely meal with the paper and good company - this is the place for you. It's laid back and the sofas and coffee tables give this coffee house a cozy living room feel.

 Must order: Get a muffin. Any kind. Just get a muffin.

Sugar & Spice -- 536 City Island Ave | Bronx, NY 10464 | (718) 885-9229
This little gem is located on City Island. Do yourself a favor - skip all the usual City Island eateries and go to Sugar & Spice. The food is like nothing you would ever expect having in The Bronx.

Isla Verde offers traditional Puerto Rican comfort food and tempting tapas that everyone in your family will want to immediately devour. And I love the prix fix brunch option with unlimited drinks. 

 Tip: Be prepared - you can easily linger here for a few hours. The food and music is that good.

Tosca's Weekend Brunch is quite popular and a favorite among Bronxites. With their wide selection of offerings and rooftop tables Mom will definitely feel special.

Bronx Ale House -- 216 W 238th St. | Bronx, NY 10463 | (718) 601-0204
I'm cheating a bit with this one...because I haven't been here for brunch and I'm not sure if they offer it. But I couldn't put this list together without mentioning Bronx Ale House. The burgers are juicy and delicious - go for the breakfast burger if Mom wants eggs. The wings are perfect. And there's a vast selection of beer. It will be a favorite for mom and dad too!

 Note: This is a great option if you're treating mom. While they won't object if you bring kids, there is no kids menu.


Bruckner Bar -- 1 Bruckner Blvd | Bronx, NY 10454
I love the nostalgic feel of Bruckner Bar. The drinks are generous and unlike Bronx Ale House, Bruckner Bar is more family friendly. The food is good and reasonably priced. 

Tip: Ask if there are any specials as the staff is not always prepared to relay them. They have a kids menu - so ask for it, if it's not provided to you.
