Guess Who Is In the April 2014 Issue of Latina Magazine?

Today the April issue of Latina magazine hits bookstores and newsstands and I'm super excited about it. Because guess who is in it?! I mean...obviously it's Shakira. She's on the cover. But if you flip to page 64 you'll see me and The Boy. ME! As in, I've written the article. My very first print article. This is a big moment for me. I'm extremely proud. And I'm grateful that Latina magazine gave me the opportunity to share a little of our autism journey...in my own words.

I started blogging because I was frustrated by the lack of autism awareness within the Latino community. All the families I read about were completely unrelatable. They were all white upper middle class families living in suburbia. Within the Latino community there is so much stigma regarding disability and mental illness. There is fear, sadness, shame and misunderstanding. None of this will help our kids or parents hearing the words "your child has autism" for the very first time.

I write because I want other parents to realize they are not alone. And I want to inspire them to share their own stories. But most of all, I want parents to know that there is always hope.
